About the project

During my research, I discovered that customers often keep the primary packaging box to store their headphones for protection, additionally, retail stores typically purchase extra display stands to showcase the product on shelves.

After sketching out some ideas, I realized there’s an opportunity to combine these two functions into a package design. By doing so, the headphone packaging could be transformed into a fashionable accessory, allowing customers to carry it around, even when not used to store the headphones, the packaging could double as a transparent bag, offering versatility beyond its original purpose.

About the project

During my research, I discovered that many customers tend to keep the original packaging box to store their headphones for protection, rather than discarding it after purchase. At the same time, retail stores often invest in additional display stands to properly showcase the product on shelves. These two behaviors revealed an interesting inefficiency: the packaging and the display system are functioning separately, even though they serve related purposes.

By combining packaging, display, and accessory into one system, the design reduces material redundancy, enhances user value, and strengthens brand presence in everyday life. Instead of being discarded, the packaging becomes a long-term, visible extension of the product and the brand.

- Concept Sketching -

After sketching and exploring different structural directions, I realized there is an opportunity to merge these two functions into a single, integrated design. The headphone packaging could be engineered to transition seamlessly between three states: retail display, protective storage, and everyday carry accessory.

The final design allows the headphone case to stand independently, functioning as both a protective case and a self-display structure.

- Packaging Structure and Mold Design -

Sound Wave Pattern on the Case

Sound wave patterns are incorporated along the sides of the case, visually mimicking the flow of music and reinforcing the product’s audio identity.

Vacuum Forming Mold

To ensure the forms cleanly and releases smoothly, the mold had to be carefully designed with proper draft angles.

- Spec Drawing -

The case is opened and closed through a buckle mechanism, and the headphone can be kept inside the case or around it for display.

- Information Card Design -

The card which includes the graphic and product information is being folded backwards and placed at the bottom of the case.
